The BBC has released an episode of Top Gear on the eve of the race in which Jeremy Clarkson’s team will be hoping to win the 2017 race for the world’s best motoring show.
The episode takes an in-depth look at how Clarkson’s Mercedes team managed to get the best out of its car, and how it managed to put the Mercedes car into the winning position on lap one.
Clarkson’s boss Mark Rees, who runs the BBC’s sports coverage, told presenter James May that the BBC had been looking at the 2016 race as an opportunity to get behind the Mercedes team, which he believes has improved its performance since the end of the season.
The BBC’s Richard Kemp is in charge of the show, and he says the show is looking at this as a chance to do that.
“The team that won the race for us was actually one of the worst, it had an absolute nightmare season and we were going to get our hands on it,” he said.
“We’re trying to make sure that’s not the case in the future and hopefully we’ll be able to.”
The BBC has confirmed that it will be looking to get Clarkson’s cars into the winner’s circle this season, and it is hoping that this year’s race will be the first opportunity to do so.
Clarkson and his Mercedes team have been struggling with reliability and engine performance, and the BBC will be keen to see how they manage to get out of this.
