Astros game stores near Houston are planning to sell the Astros season ticket allotment in an effort to expand its fan base, according to a report.
The Houston Chronicle reported the Astros team had informed franchise owner Jim Crane of plans to sell season tickets, with the store being sold out as of Thursday.
In the meantime, the Astros will be holding their annual fan convention this weekend in Houston.
The franchise has been struggling financially over the last several seasons, and it is unlikely that fans would have been interested in buying season tickets at a reduced price when the team is on the brink of bankruptcy.
The Astros will likely be selling season tickets through online auction sites, with a total of about $8.5 million of the allotment expected to go to charity.
A spokesperson for the Astros did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
