In a bid to combat the increasing popularity of online games like Hearthstone, Microsoft announced today that it has created Solitaire.
The company says the new game lets players “play the best of both worlds.”
Solitaire is available now in the Windows Store, as well as the Xbox One and Windows 10 mobile apps.
The game is free, and players can earn in-game currency through in-app purchases.
The “gamification of fantasy,” Solitaire’s creator, Jodi Lanier, said in a blog post that the game was inspired by her love of “the Hobbit.”
“I think what makes the best fantasy a fantasy is that it’s not just about a fantasy world.
It’s about a community,” Lanier said.
“That’s why I’m so excited to share my game with you today.”
In addition to the game’s in-built trading system, players can spend money to purchase different skins, weapons, spells, and more.
Players will also be able to trade virtual cards from the game, which Lanier says are designed to be a “great alternative” to real cards.
The new game is available to download now in its entirety.
